Best Places To Find More Deer Sheds

Part 4, Shed Hunting Tips. When do deer shed their antlers? Telling you a general time frame such as February to March can usually put you out shed hunting somewhere in the ball park of when you need to be. Finding deer sheds however is the hard part of shed hunting, this is where hunters need help. The biggest question of shed hunting then is not when to find deer sheds but where to find deer sheds. Where is the best place to find deer sheds? What is your go to hotspots for sheds? What are some areas on your property that you are almost guaranteed to find sheds on? David and the Raised Hunting Group discuss their top places to find more deer sheds. The two best spots for shed hunting and finding more deer sheds have to be first of bedding areas and late season food sources. You have to start out where the deer spend most of their time. A bedding area that could have deer sheds in it will be thick, little human pressured spots that block wind but still allow some sunlight. Thick vegetation, thick timber, native grasses, or tall weedy areas offer great places for deer beds and subsequently deer sheds. You will find deer sheds in late season food sources such as standing corn, standing soybeans, or a late season food plot such as brassicas. Once the two best spots are searched heavily you have to rely upon your secondary spots. The first of these are heavily worn trails in thick snow leading to and from bedding areas and food sources. A worn trail can be easy pickings for deer sheds. Fence or creek crossings also jolt antlers persuading them to come off in very easily identified spots. This year search feeding areas first because they are easy pickings, after you have exhausted those areas, start sneaking into bedding areas and thickets.
